We Are Family! “Spirit Academy” for Children & Youth – Sundays, 11:00am We refer to our children’s program as "Spirit Academy: A Wizard School for the Wise". Spirit Academy meets weekly to nurture in our children the awareness of the presence of God within them, around them, and within others and to teach spiritual practices through prayer, affirmation, meditation and service. We currently serve youth ages 3-12. The program uses stories, games, songs and other fun activities to teach them to live empowered lives. We are working to form a teen group filled with activities and dialogue to support the spiritual grounding of today’s teens. We are also in the works to create a nursery and toddler program for the new CSL wee-ones. We had 9 babies arrive at CSL during 2007! Spirit Academy’s Purpose:
Our Teachers Spirit Academy is coordinated by Sean Huggins. Our volunteer teachers all have a basic understanding of the Science of Mind teaching. We encourage parents and any other interested person to be an assistant in class to help out on occasion by sharing a hobby, reading a book or just being a support to the teacher in the classroom. Spirit Academy has openings for more adults to serve our children on Sundays. It is a great way to learn and grow and be a part of a ministry that has a direct impact on the evolution of consciousness on the planet. Everyone who serves receives a complimentary CD of the Sunday service, as well as training and lots of hugs! Sean Huggins is the coordinator of Spirit Academy. You can reach Sean by email, spiritacademy@gmail.com or phone 778-988-6244. Sample Day in Spirit Academy The children begin their Sunday time at CSL in the sanctuary. They participate in the Opening Song and prayer and then are invited by Rev. Mary Kay Ducey to the front for a blessing. Everyone present opens their hearts and sends love to “our children” and we repeat a blessing – seeing the Truth of the Divine nature of all children. We encourage them to shine their lights, and to remember that they are loved! The children then venture downstairs to Spirit Academy as we move into our community chant. Circle Time During circle time, we create a sacred atmosphere through sharing, show and tell, and establishing common guidelines for the class. Prayer We then open with a prayer about the topic for the day, something that needs to be transformed or that may have come up in the earlier discussion, or a class goal. A leader says the prayer and everyone repeat. Everyone sits in the circle and uses this prayer to tune in to the Magic Presence within. Story/Lesson Time Each week we have a lesson prepared that usually includes a story or creative expression of the ideas for the week. We feature special topics each month including prayer, sharing our planet in a sustainable way with all beings, peace, personal empowerment and positive thinking. Cooperative Game/Song/Dance Activity We believe in a full experience – Mind-Body-Spirit. We find some creative way to fully em-body the ideas of the day through art, music, or cooperative games.
